where did that young girl go?

after all,
she always had one foot in this world
and the other in another

i hope she's having fun-

splashing in the water she was birthed in
the sun glimmering around her warm skin

no gills no lungs no way to drown here
so she gulps up the ocean until her thirst is quenched

and some days,

they say
she sucks the whole world dry
just to lay

quietly

in a field of yellow grass

and cry all the lakes and rivers
back into their rightful homes


i hope the cardinal caged in her chest

has finally broken free
